At Unisource, we believe that great design has the power to transform more than just offices and commercial interiors, but lives. That belief is at the heart of our ongoing partnership with A Sense of Home (ASOH), a Southern California nonprofit dedicated to creating safe, welcoming homes for individuals and families emerging from displacement, foster care, and disaster.

What began as a single donation has grown into a sustained relationship built on shared purpose: the conviction that everyone deserves a place that feels like home. Since this partnership began, we’ve coordinated more than three furniture deliveries, provided two truckloads of donated pieces, and helped warm countless homes.

Who is A Sense of Home?

A Sense of Home is a Los Angeles-based nonprofit that creates fully furnished, dignified living spaces for those who have aged out of foster care, survived natural disasters, or experienced other forms of housing instability. Through community partnerships and donated goods, ASOH transforms bare apartments into warm, functional homes, often within a single day.

Their model is simple but profound: a home isn't just four walls. It's a sofa to sit on, a dining table to share meals at, a chair that says you belong here. The organization's team, led by COO Vicken Sosikian and supported by a dedicated community of volunteers and donors, works tirelessly to ensure that no one has to start over with nothing.

"Thank you for all your impactful kindness, generosity and support."

How the Partnership Came Together

Our relationship with ASOH didn't begin with a corporate initiative. It began with someone rolling up their sleeves.

Unisource Design Manager, Mireya Avitia, volunteered hands-on with ASOH, helping build furniture for a young person's very first home. That experience of assembling pieces that would anchor someone's new beginning became a living reminder of what design is really for: creating foundations for human dignity and success.

From that personal connection, something larger began to take shape. We soon after participated in the IIDA Design Challenge, a collaborative effort with Swinerton and Corgan, to furnish an entire home using donated items, with each partner contributing their distinct expertise.

How the Partnership Grew

Through a warm introduction from ASOH's Community Engagement Manager Anna Nicles, our Director of Operations, Jorge Arellano, connected with Vicken Sosikian to explore how furniture from Unisource's decommission projects could find a second life. The answer was immediate: yes, and as much as possible.

Rather than seeing end-of-project inventory as surplus to be discarded, our team saw opportunity. Sofas, dining tables, chairs, ottomans, and armchairs that had served corporate spaces well could go on to anchor someone's very first home. Operations lead Roger Romero coordinated directly with the ASOH team — photographing available inventory, confirming what was most needed, and scheduling deliveries to their Hawthorne warehouse.

Furniture donated to date has included sofas and seating, which are the most pressing need for new home installs; dining tables and dining chairs to support shared mealtimes; and armchairs and ottomans that bring comfort to living spaces.

Showing Up, Again and Again

What stands out most about this partnership isn't the size of any single donation, it's the consistency. Over multiple months, from early 2026 through spring, Unisource has returned to ASOH with more to give. Each time a decommission project wraps and quality furniture becomes available, our team reaches out.

In March 2026, we coordinated our most recent delivery: another truckload of furniture dispatched to ASOH's Hawthorne warehouse, arriving just in time for an upcoming home creation. We received a follow-up from the ASOH team with something that made it all worthwhile: a gallery of the home that our donated furniture helped furnish.

Seeing a living room come to life is a reminder of why we do what we do.

Design as a Vehicle for Good

As a full-service furniture and design resource, Unisource Solutions works every day with clients, architects, and interior designers to shape the spaces where people work, collaborate, and create. We're proud to represent Haworth and a wide range ofof manufacturers, and to bring our custom line, Platform, to clients with unique needs.

Our partnership with ASOH is a natural extension of those values. Furniture isn't just functional, it can be emotional. The right piece in the right space can signal safety, dignity, and belonging. That's true in a beautifully designed corporate headquarters, and it's equally true in the home of someone starting fresh.

We're committed to growing this partnership, continuing to find meaningful second lives for quality furniture, and supporting ASOH's mission in whatever ways we can.
