Businesses need partners who walk the talk when it comes to sustainability. At Unisource Solutions, sustainability isn't a trend—it's been at the core of our business since 1987, beginning with our efforts to help clients reuse and recycle existing furniture. As we mark Earth Day 2026, our commitment has only deepened in response to evolving climate challenges, growing resource demands, and the real-world impact we see every day in our communities across Los Angeles.
For nearly four decades, Unisource Solutions has partnered with forward-thinking clients to minimize waste and lower environmental footprints across all areas of business—including through Platform, our in-house custom furniture division. Our mission remains clear as we face growing climate demands: increase awareness, eliminate unnecessary waste, and lead with intention.
As a local furniture dealer, manufacturer, and service provider in Los Angeles, we understand the role our operations play in shaping environmental outcomes. That's why we're focused on continuous improvement—designing smarter, working cleaner, and collaborating with our clients to build spaces that meet the demands of both people and planet.
Our comprehensive approach to sustainability encompasses every facet of how we operate:
Our commitment to the circular economy means we're constantly finding ways to maximize the value of our clients' resources while minimizing environmental impact. In 2025, we diverted 393 metric tons of reused, recycled, and repurposed products and materials from landfills—generating $60,000 in savings for end users.
That 393 metric tons breaks down across material streams: metal (258mt), cardboard (92mt), wood (32mt), donated goods (8mt), and e-waste (3mt). Every category represents a deliberate choice to keep materials in use rather than send them to a landfill.
Our approach follows an industry-standard waste hierarchy that prioritizes the most sustainable options first:
Our innovative decommissioning services help clients like PNC Bank, Harbor–UCLA Medical Center, State Fund, and Union Bank transition to new workspaces responsibly. Using an advanced inventory system, we repair, refurbish, and repurpose assets wherever possible. When it's time to reconfigure or launch a new workspace, we access what's on hand and redeploy it with intention—minimizing waste, extending asset life, and maximizing value.
Our eco-conscious decommissioning processes include:
This year, our community work has been especially meaningful. In 2025, Unisource Solutions donated 18,000 lbs of quality office furniture to nonprofit organizations and charities—and our donation program has now reached 75+ nonprofit organizations and charities since its inception.
Some of the moments we're most proud of this year:
Responding to the Eaton Canyon Fires: When the fires displaced families across the LA region, we mobilized quickly—furnishing homes for those in need and demonstrating that the design community can turn surplus inventory into stability and safety.
A Sense of Home: We're proud to partner with A Sense of Home, which furnishes first homes for young adults aging out of foster care. We teamed up with Corgan and Swinerton to furnish an entire home using donated items—giving former foster youth a genuine foundation to build from.
Santa Monica PAL Youth Center: The center needed to update its aging furniture to better serve after-school programs. We donated modern, vibrant, and durable pieces—including sectional seating, ergonomic chairs, and conversation areas—that transformed the space into a welcoming environment that reinforces the PAL mission of building trust between youth and law enforcement.
The Samaritan Center of Simi Valley: When the Samaritan Center needed to expand their capacity to serve those facing homelessness and food insecurity, we donated Haworth workstations, ergonomic chairs, height-adjustable tables, and collaborative furniture to transform their operations and help their staff do their best work.
Our sustainability efforts extend to our manufacturing and brand partnerships. Platform by Unisource Solutions partners only with local manufacturers who operate with high environmental awareness—using 100% pre-consumer recycled wood fiber particle board and 100% recyclable shipping materials throughout the process.
A highlight from this year: Platform demonstrated the power of reupholstery as a sustainable alternative to replacement by fully restoring 34 chairs for Riot Games within a rapid two-week turnaround. Rather than sending aging furniture to a landfill and ordering new, this project extended the life of existing pieces—reducing waste, conserving raw materials and energy, and lowering the overall carbon footprint.
We're also proud of our Best-in-Class partnership with Haworth, who shares our deep commitment to people and planet. Together, we develop and actualize creative, sustainable solutions that protect and restore the environment, support communities, and promote well-being.
And alongside Humanscale—who have adopted a circular model that removes waste and pollution from the manufacturing process and keeps materials in use longer—we've accumulated the following net positive impact over the last five years:
At Unisource Solutions, we believe sustainability is not just a responsibility—it's an opportunity to innovate and create better workplaces. As we reflect on what we've accomplished in 2025 and look ahead through 2026 and beyond, we remain committed to learning, improving, and working alongside our clients to make lasting, measurable progress for our communities and the planet.
Sustainability isn't a trend. It's how we've done business for nearly 40 years—and it's how we'll keep doing it, together.
