NeoCon is well known as the go-to event for the latest and greatest in commercial design and NeoCon 2024 was no exception. This year’s show was bursting with creativity, sustainability, and smart solutions for the modern office. Here are some of my takeaways on workplace furniture trends coming out of the show.

1. Sustainable Materials and Practices
Sustainability stole the spotlight at NeoCon 2024. Exhibitors showcased their dedication to eco-friendly materials and practices, from recycled plastics to sustainably sourced wood. The message was clear: we can protect our planet while creating stunning office environments. Beautiful, sustainable furniture that doesn’t compromise on style or functionality was showcased. After a successful debut at NeoCon 2023, Haworth continued the DesignLab underscoring innovative approaches and a commitment to sustainability through circular design principles.

The need for flexibility in the workplace is growing, and NeoCon 2024 had plenty to offer. Modular furniture systems that can be easily reconfigured for different tasks and team sizes were a big hit. Haworth introduced versatile pieces that adapt to your needs, perfect for the ever-changing landscape of hybrid work models.
4. Technology Integration
Tech-savvy furniture is here to stay. This year, we saw smart desks with built-in charging ports, wireless charging surfaces, and furniture seamlessly integrated with video conferencing tools. These innovations cater to our tech-driven work habits, making it easier to stay productive and connected.
5. Ergonomics and Employee Wellbeing
Comfort is king, and ergonomic designs were front and center at NeoCon 2024. Adjustable desks, chairs with enhanced lumbar support, and furniture encouraging movement were all the rage. These pieces prioritize physical health, helping to prevent musculoskeletal issues and boosting overall well-being.
6. Resimercial Design
Blending residential and commercial design—also being called "resimercial"—continues to trend. Inviting, home-like elements were all around, from soft seating and warm lighting to furniture with a residential look. These designs create comfortable workspaces that make you feel right at home, reflecting the shift towards more relaxed and collaborative office environments.
7. Acoustic Solutions
Managing noise in open-plan offices is crucial, and NeoCon 2024 had plenty of solutions. Sound-absorbing panels, ceiling tiles, acoustic pods, and quiet workspaces were showcased to help reduce distractions and enhance focus. These innovations create more productive and pleasant work environments.
8. Color and Customization
Customization is key, with manufacturers offering a plethora of colors, finishes, and configurations. This allows companies to craft unique workspaces that reflect their brand and culture. Bold colors and patterns were particularly popular, adding a splash of vibrancy and personality to office interiors.
